On Wednesday, September 9, 1999, we were invited to present our league to a potential sponsoring location, The Home Plate. Upon our arrival we found a very organized and involved sponsor and bar owner, John Lewis, conducting a league meeting for his players. I was very impressed with the method he took to insure his players had equal representation and that their best interest would be met.
He had 1 team lineup and thought he could get an additional team. We extended him till Friday to get his roster ready. I believe if given more time John would have gotten several more teams involved, but with the league slated to begin on Tuesday we were forced to make Friday night our deadline.
Sure enough, as promised, John gave us his additional roster, placing The Home Plate among Fiddlestix Billiard Cafe, Reedurban and B & J's as sponsors with multiple teams.
Thus began the arduous task of scheduling the league to maximize the Home vs. Away games are equal for every team. Concern was also given to insure there is a team playing at the sponsoring bar each week for bars with multiple teams. This process took us well past 2:00 am.
Thus began the Canton, OH BCAPL and www.8Ball.org.
